MK Arz Mallul Accuses Deputy Attorney General of Targeting Haredi Families
A storm broke out in the Knesset Constitution Committee when Shas lawmaker Arz Mallul sharply attacked Deputy Attorney General Gil Limon over what he called mistreatment of Torah students and the removal of benefits for large Haredi families.
Mallul said Limon was acting out of hatred and accused him of trying to inflame division in Israeli society. "You want brotherly hatred. You want to tear apart Israeli society," he shouted, adding that Limon and the dismissed attorney general had put "sticks in the wheels" of the enlistment law.
He further alleged that officials had set up a special operations room, or "war room," aimed at finding additional sanctions against Haredim. Mallul also said the measures were harming "women and toddlers."
In his harshest charge, Mallul told Limon, "They promised you that if you bring down the government, you will be the next attorney general. That will not happen. There will be elections and the public will have its say. The public is fed up with your dictatorship."
