Solar Panels Offer Lifeline to Israel's Struggling Fish Farming Industry

Shor, speaking at a conference hosted by Calcalist and Discount, proposed integrating solar panels and energy storage systems as a solution to revitalize the sector.

K-Power, an Israeli energy company with nearly 15 years of experience, specializes in combining electricity generation and storage with existing agricultural and industrial activities. Shor explained that their approach allows for the establishment of efficient energy facilities even in areas with limited grid infrastructure, providing an additional revenue stream for farms without disrupting their core operations.

Shor highlighted that K-Power focuses on dual-use projects, installing solar arrays on existing agricultural structures like fences, fish ponds, chicken coops, and dairy barns. This strategy addresses the dual challenges of land availability and grid capacity limitations in solar energy development. The company is currently experiencing accelerated growth and has a significant pipeline of projects.

Specifically for fish farming, K-Power utilizes a unique method to create shallow, nearly closed-system ponds that require minimal water changes compared to conventional methods. These ponds are then covered with solar panels, which are integrated with advanced energy storage systems. Shor believes this innovative approach can help both experienced fish farmers who have been forced to abandon their operations and newcomers to the field, potentially reviving the struggling industry across Israel.
