Gabi Kanyukovsky Officially Signs With Maccabi Tel Aviv on Lucrative Deal

Maccabi Tel Aviv has officially signed midfielder Gabi Kanyukovsky to a new four-year contract, with the club announcing the deal just before their recent 3-1 victory over Maccabi Haifa. The announcement was strategically timed to boost fan morale following the team's European elimination. Kanyukovsky will earn 525,000 euros per season, a salary matching what he received in Hungary. Maccabi Tel Aviv will pay 1.2 million euros for the transfer, and the club will also cover the taxes Kanyukovsky incurs by returning to Israel after a year abroad.

Professional Sports Director Steven Nienhuis identified Kanyukovsky's return as a priority even before his official appointment, having tracked the player and making his acquisition a key objective in initial discussions with owner Mitch Goldhar. The club views Kanyukovsky's integration alongside Isai Saar and Dor Peretz as the foundation for the league's strongest midfield. They also anticipate further strengthening with the return of injured player Christian Blic. Kanyukovsky's signing is considered one of the highest salaries in the league.
