Israeli Soccer Star Sayed Abu Farhi Joins Colorado Rapids in Landmark Deal

Sayed Abu Farhi, a 20-year-old forward for Maccabi Tel Aviv, has officially signed a four-year contract with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer (MLS) after completing medical tests on Monday. The deal, first reported by Walla Sport, is considered one of the most significant transfers in the history of Maccabi Tel Aviv and Israeli football.

Under the terms of the agreement, Abu Farhi will earn a gross salary of $800,000 per season, with an additional $150,000 in gross bonuses tied to goal scoring and being named the league's young player of the year. Maccabi Tel Aviv will receive $6 million upfront for the transfer, with an additional $1 million in bonuses based on Abu Farhi's goal-scoring performance. Furthermore, the Israeli club will retain 20% of any future transfer fee if Abu Farhi is sold to another team.

Abu Farhi himself will benefit financially, receiving 10% of his current transfer fee, amounting to $600,000, and will also hold 10% of any future transfer proceeds from the Colorado Rapids. He is expected to be formally introduced by his new club on Tuesday and will need to wait a few days before being eligible to play.

This transfer draws parallels to the move of Dor Turgeman to the New England Revolution a year ago. Abu Farhi is also slated to be part of the Israeli national team squad for the upcoming Nations League matches next month, with national coach Ran Ben Shimon anticipating he will play a significant role.
