Maccabi Tel Aviv Striker Sayed Abu Freih Nears $6 Million Transfer to Colorado Rapids
Sayed Abu Freih, the striker for Maccabi Tel Aviv, has completed most of his medical tests in Colorado as he prepares to sign with the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer. Accompanied by his agent, lawyer Shahar Greenberg, Abu Freih has been in the United States for two days and is expected to be officially presented by the Rapids within the next two days. The transfer deal is reportedly worth $6 million, with an additional $1 million in bonuses and 20 percent of any future transfer fee. Abu Freih is set to sign a four-year contract with an initial gross salary of $800,000 per season, plus goal-scoring bonuses and a share in his future transfer rights.
This move will see Abu Freih join the growing Israeli presence in MLS and potentially follow in the footsteps of Rafael Navarro, who is close to being sold by the Rapids to St. Louis for approximately $12 million. Colorado Rapids management believes Abu Freih will also be sold within two years for a significantly higher fee than their purchase price, which is why Maccabi Tel Aviv secured a percentage of his future transfer rights. This deal marks a major transfer milestone for both the player and the clubs involved.
