Hapoel Be'er Sheva Signs Defender Idan Nachmias for Depth and Versatility

Hapoel Be'er Sheva, the reigning Israeli Premier League champions, have announced the signing of defender Idan Nachmias after his stint with Bulgarian club Ludogorets. Nachmias, who previously won two league titles with Maccabi Tel Aviv, will reportedly earn 250,000 euros per season.

While Nachmias is not expected to be an immediate starter, given the strong performances of Miguel Vítor and Itay Roitman in the Champions League qualifiers, his arrival provides crucial depth for a team competing in multiple competitions. Vítor is 37 years old, and Roitman is experiencing his first season in a title-contending team, making Nachmias's ability to step in for either player a valuable asset. He is seen as the third-choice center-back in the rotation, capable of replacing Roitman due to his physicality or Vítor by bringing composure to the defense. Nachmias could also potentially be the fourth or fifth choice, ahead of Matan Baltaxa, and can even play as a right-back, offering cover for Guy Mzerahi.

Nachmias's past performance in Bulgaria, where he won 5.8 duels per game, including 1.8 aerial duels with a 55% success rate, and his aerial success rate of 75% at Maccabi Tel Aviv, suggests he can handle physically imposing strikers.

Furthermore, Nachmias's versatility, having played right-back for Ludogorets, offers tactical flexibility. His speed allows him to recover defensively, potentially enabling coach Ran Kochav to deploy a three-center-back formation with Nachmias, Vítor, and Roitman.
