Gun, Ammunition Explode in Oven During Pizza Prep in Ashdod

Police in Ashdod were called to a residential street late Monday night following reports of gunfire. Responding officers discovered a highly unusual situation: a woman preparing to bake a pizza had preheated her oven, unaware that her partner had hidden a handgun and ammunition inside. The heat from the oven caused the items to explode, creating the sounds that alerted neighbors.

Officers from the Ashdod station have opened an investigation into the incident. The discovery was made during a routine call that turned bizarre, with the intended pizza replaced by ammunition.

In a separate incident last week, also in Ashdod, police seized computers, documents, and cash from a business suspected of operating an illegal gambling den. Authorities believe the business was a front for illicit activities. A person present during the raid provided a statement, and the business's owner was detained for further questioning. A police official stated the operation is part of an ongoing effort to combat criminal activity and those involved in operating such venues.
