Renowned Rabbi Mordechai Tzvi Pollman Dies at 73 in Brooklyn

Rabbi Mordechai Tzvi Pollman, a distinguished Hasidic scholar and devoted Torah student, passed away in Brooklyn's Boro Park neighborhood at the age of 73. He endured a prolonged illness with quiet acceptance and devotion.

Born in 1952, Rabbi Pollman was the son of Rabbi Eliezer David, a prominent figure in the Spinka Williamsburg community, and Mrs. Esther Shprintza. From a young age, he dedicated himself to Torah study, attending Yeshiva Chatan Sofer and later Lakewood Yeshiva, where he studied under Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kaminetsky. Influenced by his uncle, Rabbi Zusha Pollman, he also developed a connection to the Bobov Hasidic dynasty.

After marrying the daughter of Rabbi Chaim Hersh Halberstam, Rabbi Pollman moved to Boro Park and deepened his involvement with the Bobov community. Although initially assisting his father in business, he remained steadfast in his commitment to Torah study, earning a reputation as a profound scholar. He also delved into Kabbalah, spending time at the Sha'arei Shamayim yeshiva in Israel and studying with Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Morgenstern.

Despite his business success, Rabbi Pollman was known for his secret acts of charity and deep piety. He faced a severe illness for the last 13 years of his life, which progressively limited his mobility and cognitive abilities. Nevertheless, he maintained his devotion to Torah and his gentle demeanor, receiving everyone with kindness.

In his final days, his condition worsened, and he was hospitalized. He passed away on Saturday evening with his family by his side. His funeral was held on Sunday in Boro Park, with his body to be flown to Israel for burial in Safed, where he had purchased a plot. A second funeral procession will take place in Jerusalem on Monday before his burial in Safed.
