Maccabi Tel Aviv's Newcomers Impress During Pre-Season Training

Maccabi Tel Aviv's basketball team is nearing the end of its pre-season training camp, held this year in Caesarea with practices in Hadera. The squad has been incomplete during the initial stages, with several players, including Jalen Hurd, Daniel Theis, Roman Sorkin, and Yam Madar, away with their national teams. TJ Leaf and Gur Lavi are continuing their rehabilitation from injuries with partial team training. New additions Oshae Brissett and Keeton Wallace joined later, gradually expanding the roster. The coaching staff, led by Oded Katash and assistants Guy Pnini, Noam Levi, and Adi Amos, aims to implement new strategies and ideas this season, focusing on both individual player development and team dynamics, especially for the newcomers.

The team is pleased with the players' physical condition upon arrival, noting their dedication during the summer. The return of Bonzie Colson was met with particular enthusiasm, with club officials expressing how much his humor and personality are missed and valued, hoping he will be a central, impactful player. Guard Keeton Wallace has notably impressed the coaching staff with his passing ability and court vision. Described as a strong guard, Wallace, in his first European season, is adapting to a different style of play and has shown toughness on defense and a willingness to pass.

Center Armando Bacot, who had limited minutes with Fenerbahce last season, is expected to be a significant contributor. While familiar with European basketball, he is joining a new system. The team sees his potential, good size, and skills as assets. Shane Hunter has returned from loan and expressed his dream of playing for Maccabi. He has shown well in practices, demonstrating athleticism and versatility, playing both forward positions, which adds depth to the team's rotation. His long-term role is yet to be determined, especially with Leaf and Lavi recovering.

Maccabi Tel Aviv's pre-season schedule includes upcoming friendly matches against Bnei Herzliya and Maccabi Rishon LeZion, followed by games in Cyprus against Aris and Olympiacos. The team will kick off its competitive season on September 17th against Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Social Super Cup.
