Maccabi Tel Aviv Preseason: Newcomers Impress, Team Adapts to Absences

Maccabi Tel Aviv is nearing the end of its preseason training camp, held at Ein Kerem and with players lodging in Caesarea. The team has been training with a depleted and makeshift roster due to several key players being away with their national teams, including Jalen Hurd, Daniel Theis, Roman Sorkin, and Yam Madar, who are expected to rejoin later in the week. Additionally, TJ Leaf and Gur Lavi are continuing their rehabilitation from injuries with partial team training.

Newcomers Oshae Brissett and Keeton Wallace joined the camp after its initial week, gradually expanding the squad. The coaching staff, led by Oded Katash with assistants Guy Pnini, Noam Levi, and Adi Amos, is focusing on integrating new players and adapting team strategies. They aim to evolve from last season by introducing new content and ideas, varying training roles, and fostering a more dynamic approach.

The club is pleased with the players' physical condition, noting their hard work over the summer. The return of Bonzie Colson was met with particular enthusiasm, with club officials expressing hope that he will be a central, impactful player as remembered. Colson's humor and personality are seen as significant additions to the team.

Guard Keeton Wallace has particularly impressed the coaching staff with his passing ability and court vision. Described as a "very strong guard" and a "complete player," Wallace, in his first European season, is noted for his defensive toughness and offensive passing skills. Center Armando Bacot, who played limited minutes for Fenerbahçe last season, is recognized for his talent, size, and skills, with potential to succeed in a larger role. Shane Hunter, returning from a loan, has also shown well in training, offering versatility and athleticism, though his full-season status with Maccabi is yet to be determined.

Maccabi's preseason schedule includes upcoming friendly matches against Bnei Herzliya and Maccabi Rishon LeZion, followed by games in Cyprus against Aris and Olympiacos. The team will face Hapoel Tel Aviv in the first derby of the season on September 17th as part of the Social Super Cup.
