Netanyahu Says He Will Run Again and Expects to Win

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he will run in the next election and is confident he will win, after renewed speculation about his political future following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump. At a press conference, when asked whether he would stand again, Netanyahu answered, “I’m going to run, and I intend to win.”

Netanyahu also pushed back against attempts to portray his relationship with Trump in distorted ways. He said claims in the United States that Trump does whatever Netanyahu asks are false, and claims in Israel that the opposite is true are also false. “We are partners who know each other well,” he said.

He added that the two leaders sometimes agree and sometimes do not. “Many times we agree, and sometimes we do not agree, it happens in the best families,” Netanyahu said.

The comments came after Trump fueled speculation last week by publicly questioning whether Netanyahu planned to run again. In an ABC interview, Trump called it “an open question,” said he did not know whether Netanyahu wanted to continue, and noted that Netanyahu is a prime minister “during a war.” Likud responded immediately with a brief statement saying Netanyahu would run in the coming election and, “with God’s help,” win.
