Lithuanian Kabbalist Rabbi Michael Bornstein Leads Historic Talmud Completion at Cleveland Nursing Home

A moving and rare event took place recently at a Jewish nursing home in Cleveland, Ohio, where the Lithuanian Kabbalist Rabbi Michael Bornstein from Jerusalem led a completion ceremony of the Talmud tractate Baba Batra. The nursing home, which has been in existence for over 110 years, was on the verge of being sold to corporate interests but was ultimately purchased by a Haredi-owned company after persistent efforts encouraged by Rabbi Bornstein. This acquisition was considered a "visible miracle" by the American business community, preserving the home’s traditional Jewish character.

Following the purchase, Rabbi Bornstein instructed the establishment of a kollel for dedicated scholars, which revitalized the spiritual atmosphere among the residents. The culmination of this renewal was the recent completion of the Baba Batra tractate, celebrated with a festive meal attended by local rabbis, families of residents, and community leaders. A particularly poignant moment was when Mr. Moshe Aharon Baron, a centenarian resident, completed the tractate for the first time in his life, moving many attendees to tears.

The event concluded with Rabbi Bornstein affixing a decorative mezuzah at the nursing home’s main entrance, symbolizing a blessing and renewal for the institution’s future as a center of Torah and Jewish life. Rabbi Bornstein’s visit to Cleveland was part of a week-long tour across New York and New Jersey, where he delivered numerous lectures and guidance sessions for rabbis, Hasidic leaders, and scholars in various synagogues and private homes. After engaging with over 1,500 people and delivering dozens of lessons, Rabbi Bornstein returned to Jerusalem, leaving a lasting spiritual impact on the communities he visited.
