Rabbi Dr. Yitzhak Alfasi, Renowned Hasidism Scholar, Dies at 97
Rabbi Dr. Yitzhak Alfasi, a leading researcher and author on Hasidism, passed away at the age of 97. Over several decades, he authored approximately 90 books and essays documenting the history, leaders, and dynasties of the Hasidic movement, making this heritage accessible to a broad audience. Alfasi was honored as a distinguished citizen of Tel Aviv-Yafo and left behind a vast literary and scholarly legacy.
His funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11:00 AM at the Kiryat Shaul Cemetery in Tel Aviv. Rabbi Ze'evik Harel eulogized Alfasi, highlighting his unique contribution to preserving and transmitting the legacy of great Hasidic leaders to the current generation. Harel recalled how Alfasi's works accompanied him since childhood and praised his ability to vividly portray complex figures with concise and precise language.
Rabbi Tzuriel Halamish also paid tribute to Alfasi's monumental research achievements, emphasizing that most of his work was completed before the digital age, relying on traditional research methods to compile extensive biographical encyclopedias. Halamish described Alfasi as an extraordinary and inspiring individual whose soul may rest in peace with God.
