Renowned Hasidism Historian Dr. Yitzhak Alfasi Dies at 97

Dr. Yitzhak Alfasi, a leading historian of Hasidism and prolific author, passed away at the age of 97. Born in Tel Aviv on Yom Kippur 1930 to a prominent Ger Hasid family, Alfasi dedicated his life to documenting the history of Hasidic leaders and communities. Over decades, he authored more than 90 books, becoming the foremost biographer of Hasidic figures in recent generations. His extensive handwritten research preserved the legacies of many Hasidic rebbes and followers who might otherwise have been forgotten.

Alfasi was deeply connected to the Ger Hasidic dynasty, especially to the rebbes known as Beit Yisrael and Pnei Menachem. His scholarship earned him the prestigious Rabbi Kook Prize for Torah literature and great respect within Hasidic circles. He also served as the rabbi of the Komemiyut Avraham synagogue in Tel Aviv, founded by Rabbi Shlomo Goren, and edited the weekly publication "Shabbat B'Shavato" for about ten years.

Colleagues remember him as a Torah scholar with a profound love for Hasidic teachings and a vast literary output created without assistants or computers.
