Gadi Eisenkot Rejects Ofer Winter as Future Defense Minister

Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yashar party, publicly dismissed Ofer Winter, leader of the Amcha Israel party, as a potential defense minister in a future government he might lead. In an interview with Channel 13, Eisenkot acknowledged Winter as a capable field commander but criticized him for never having held senior strategic or operational command roles in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Winter responded sharply on Wednesday, stating he has no intention of joining a government led by Eisenkot. He criticized Eisenkot's security approach and the military buildup during his tenure. Winter also highlighted his longstanding opposition to Eisenkot's policies of containment and regulation and accused Eisenkot of questionable senior IDF appointments, including Yair Golan, Aharon Haliva, and Herzl Halevi.

Concluding his response, Winter directly challenged Eisenkot's praise of strategic command, saying, "If this is what you mean by strategic command, I am proud I was not part of it." The exchange underscores deep divisions within Israel's defense and political leadership ahead of potential future government formations.
