Top Rabbi to Visit Ukraine's Uman for Rosh Hashanah Amid Major Donation

Rabbi Shalom Ber Sorotzkin, head of the Ateret Shlomo yeshiva, is expected to spend Rosh Hashanah in Uman, Ukraine, in an unusual move. This decision stems from a commitment by a major donor in the United States, who has pledged tens of millions of shekels to support the yeshiva's institutions.

The condition for this significant contribution is Rabbi Sorotzkin's presence with the donor in Uman during the holiday. This marks a departure from the rabbi's usual practice of spending Rosh Hashanah in the U.S. to fundraise among supporters.

In previous years, Rabbi Sorotzkin would travel extensively across the United States during the High Holidays, raising substantial funds for his institutions. This year, however, a prominent American donor, who is close to the rabbi, has offered an unprecedented donation of millions of dollars.

The donor's unique stipulation is that Rabbi Sorotzkin must spend the holiday with him in Uman. Consequently, the rabbi is scheduled to travel to the Ukrainian city to observe Rosh Hashanah alongside the major benefactor, ensuring the continued financial support for Ateret Shlomo's Torah and charitable endeavors.
