Reserve Soldier Seeks Psychological Help but Faces Political Preaching Instead

The story · English

A 23-year-old reserve soldier, identified as M., who fought in intense battles in the Gaza Strip and lost two close commanders, sought psychological treatment to cope with post-combat trauma. Following recommendations, he attended a session at a clinic in Haifa with psychologist Uri Levi, expecting a safe and professional environment. However, during the first meeting, M. realized the session was being used for political preaching rather than therapeutic support. When he confronted the psychologist about this, Levi admitted, "I could not resist the temptation." Feeling disturbed and betrayed, M. left the session and informed Levi via text that he would not return.

M.'s case is not isolated; after the incident became public, other patients came forward with similar complaints about Levi mixing political content into therapy sessions and exploiting his position. Many expressed fear that sensitive personal information shared during treatment might be misused or weaponized against them. Attempts to get a detailed response from Uri Levi resulted in a dismissive reply, labeling the inquiry as harassment.

The Ministry of Health stated that no formal complaints have been filed yet but assured that any official complaints would be thoroughly investigated. They also noted that a detailed patient report would aid in examining the allegations. The ministry emphasized the importance of maintaining therapy as a protected, professional space free from agendas, especially for soldiers returning from combat who require psychological care without additional harm.
