Simona Mohamsson, Sweden's Education and Integration Minister of Palestinian descent and leader of the Liberal Party, sparked controversy after appearing on a televised election debate wearing a Star of David necklace. She wore the symbol to show solidarity with Jewish citizens and protest rising antisemitism in Sweden. Mohamsson explained, "I wear the Star of David for the children in Sweden who do not dare to wear it themselves," emphasizing her message that Sweden must remain a safe haven for Jews.

Following her appearance, Mohamsson faced a wave of online hate, including harsh comments from Wali Ghanem, a state scientist and former collaborator on Malmö's anti-Islamophobia program, who wrote "burn in hell" before later claiming it was said in emotional distress. Mohamsson responded by highlighting the ongoing fear experienced by Jewish students and community members, some of whom avoid wearing Jewish symbols or attending synagogue due to threats. She stressed the importance of society speaking out against hatred and standing firmly against antisemitism.

Mohamsson's public stance has ignited debate in Sweden about rising antisemitism and the challenges faced by minority communities, especially in the context of her Palestinian heritage. Her act of wearing the Star of David on live television was a deliberate and symbolic protest aimed at raising awareness and encouraging solidarity.
