Hyundai Ioniq Tops List of Most Stolen Cars in Israel Amid Rising Theft Rates

Vehicle theft rates in Israel have been increasing in recent years, contributing to higher car insurance premiums. In the first half of 2026 alone, thousands of car thefts were reported. Police data obtained by the Tnua Freedom of Information movement reveals that certain car models are more frequently targeted by thieves. Leading the list is the Hyundai Ioniq, with one out of every 30 vehicles stolen. Following it is the Ora 03, stolen at a rate of one in 46. Other commonly stolen vehicles include the SERES 03 SUV, Kia Picanto, and Kia Sorento. The Jeep Wrangler, Hyundai Sonata, and Hyundai Elantra also rank high on the list, with the Kia Seltos rounding out the most stolen models. This trend means owners of these vehicles can expect higher insurance costs. The report also references a recent case where a 16-year-old was caught after breaking into dozens of cars in a single night, including reckless driving incidents involving swapped license plates.
