European Green Regulations Drive Israeli Consumers Toward Sustainable Choices

תורגם ותומצת מתוך Maariv על ידי baba
The story · English

In 2026, European green regulations under the European Green Deal are significantly influencing Israeli consumer behavior, especially regarding electrical products, real estate, and energy efficiency. This shift marks a move away from fast consumption toward prioritizing durability, repairability, and energy savings. Israeli consumers increasingly prefer products that offer long-term value and transparency, reflecting a broader trend toward sustainability.

The impact is particularly notable in the real estate sector, where the European energy performance certificate (EPC) rating has become a critical economic factor. For example, France has banned renting apartments with the lowest energy ratings (G) since January 2025, with plans to extend this to rating F by 2028. Israeli investors owning European properties must now consider costly renovations or face difficulties in renting or selling properties that do not meet these standards.

Consumer awareness is growing, with 55% of French consumers familiar with repairability indexes and 66% finding them useful in purchase decisions. Moti Azulai, a consumer behavior researcher, explains that modern consumers seek protection for their money by choosing products that can be repaired rather than replaced. Ultimately, the European green regulations are reshaping value perceptions, turning non-repairable products and energy-inefficient assets into economic risks.

For Israeli consumers and investors, this means the future belongs to those who plan beyond immediate purchases and select sustainable products and properties that comply with evolving green economy standards.
