Iran Reveals Upgraded Ballistic Missiles with Advanced Maneuvering Capabilities After Israel Conflict

תורגם ותומצת מתוך Maariv על ידי baba
The story · English

Following its recent conflict with Israel, Iran has announced significant upgrades to its ballistic missile arsenal, claiming the missiles can now alter their flight paths mid-course to improve accuracy and evade defense systems. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated this capability is designed to complicate interception efforts by adversaries, particularly Israeli missile defenses.

IRGC spokesperson Mohabi explained that during the war, U.S. forces employed advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, command and control software, radar systems, and battlefield intelligence gathering to enable rapid decision-making. Despite these sophisticated measures, Iran continued to deploy its missile systems effectively.

Mohabi added that Iran also integrated new technologies into its missile forces, enhancing guidance and trajectory correction abilities. Although technical specifics were not disclosed, this development aligns with previous statements by Mohabi and other IRGC officials about accelerating missile production and improving precision during ceasefire periods.

The upgrades likely involve maneuverable reentry vehicles (MaRVs) capable of deviating from predictable ballistic paths in the final flight stages, complicating interception. The "Fateh-1" missile, for example, reportedly includes a solid-fuel motor with a steerable nozzle enabling in-flight course adjustments. This mechanism aims to increase strike accuracy and exhaust enemy interceptors by forcing them to repeatedly adjust their trajectories.

Other Iranian missiles, such as the Khorramshahr-4, are also believed to feature similar maneuvering warheads. However, no official confirmation has been made that Iran has developed continuous in-flight guidance throughout the entire missile trajectory, rather than incremental maneuvering enhancements. This announcement underscores Iran's intent to leverage lessons from recent combat to advance its missile capabilities, particularly within the IRGC Aerospace Force, which manages much of the country’s ballistic missile inventory.
