Ministerial panel blocks bill to lift Gaza disengagement restrictions
Israel’s ministerial committee on legislation did not approve a bill by MK Limor Son Har-Melech that sought to cancel parts of the Disengagement Law affecting the Gaza Strip. The proposal, rejected on Sunday, would have removed the current legal bans on Israeli citizens entering, staying in, or moving around areas of Gaza.
The bill specifically aimed to отменate the prohibition on Jews and Israelis entering the Gaza Strip, with the goal of allowing a lawful Israeli presence in the area. It would have changed the arrangements set out under the Disengagement Law for Gaza, in a manner similar to how some restrictions tied to northern Samaria were eased in recent years.
Despite that context, the committee declined to advance the initiative, so it does not yet have government backing.
