Iran says limited cyberattack hit four major banks

Now 14Right

The story · English

Iran’s Banking Coordination Council said over the weekend that several of its systems were hit by a “limited” cyberattack affecting four national financial institutions. The council said a technical investigation showed the disruption was caused by the attack, but that there was no unauthorized access to customer data and no information leak.

According to the report, once “suspicious signs” were identified, technical teams at the affected institutions immediately activated their prevention and protection protocols to safeguard bank data and systems. The council, quoted by Iranian state television IRIB, stressed that the incident did not result in a breach of client records.

The council said security and recovery operations are still underway and that experts now have full control over the infrastructure. As a result, temporary restrictions were imposed on some banking services. The organization apologized in advance to customers for any inconvenience caused by the limitations.
