MK Boaron Proposes Real-Time Voting Data Sharing to Resolve Polling Dispute

The story · English

MK Avichai Boaron of the Likud party has proposed a solution to the ongoing dispute over the Central Elections Committee's decision to restrict party representatives from collecting voting data directly at polling stations. Boaron suggests that if party representatives are barred from gathering data on who has voted, the committee should instead establish an official mechanism to provide all parties with real-time voting data equally through its staff. This proposal was made prior to Likud's formal petition to Judge Noam Solberg, chairman of the Central Elections Committee, and calls for committee employees stationed at polling stations to compile and share voting data hourly with all competing party lists.

Boaron criticized recent decisions by the committee, expressing deep concern that they negatively impact election management and the operations of right-wing parties. He emphasized that the committee's role is to ensure fair, equal, and transparent elections without unnecessarily interfering in legitimate party activities. According to Boaron, if the committee chairman opposes party representatives collecting voting data, the straightforward solution is for committee staff to provide the data in real time to all parties, preserving voter privacy and ensuring equality.

He concluded by highlighting the technological and democratic advances of the present day, stating there is no justification for denying parties basic information about voter turnout as it happens. Boaron insisted that either party representatives must be legally allowed to collect this data or the committee must supply it directly to all parties to avoid operating "in the dark" on election day.
