IDF Issues Rare Evacuation Order in South Lebanon Amid Ceasefire Breach Claims

תורגם ותומצת מתוך Maariv על ידי baba
The story · English

For the first time since the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon was declared about two months ago, the IDF Arabic spokesperson, Lt. Col. Ela Waoya, issued an evacuation order for the village of Al Manzouri in southern Lebanon. The order came after the IDF claimed that the ceasefire had been violated. The Israeli military is intensifying efforts to pressure militants to surrender or fight outside their tunnels, employing drones and powerful loudspeakers around the clock to exhaust those trapped underground. Despite these measures, most militants remain inside the tunnels.

A partial operation took place over the weekend, involving commando forces and armored brigade 7, who control the tunnel areas with advanced surveillance and observation equipment. During this operation, two militants encountered a unit from the Egoz reconnaissance battalion; both militants were killed, but an Egoz officer was moderately wounded. The tunnel explosions and ongoing clashes highlight the fragile security situation.

These developments coincide with the seventh round of talks between Israel and Lebanon, held in Rome starting August 4 and expected to continue through August 6. The U.S. State Department confirmed the talks aim to establish lasting security for both countries, remove threats to Israel, and restore Lebanese government control over southern Lebanon. The situation remains tense as the ceasefire's stability is questioned amid ongoing military actions and diplomatic efforts.
