Samsung Galaxy July 2026 Update Causes Battery Drain and Overheating Issues

A growing number of Samsung Galaxy users, particularly those with Galaxy S24 and S25 series devices, especially Ultra models, have reported rapid battery drain and unusual overheating following the July 2026 software update. These complaints surfaced mainly in Samsung's official user community after installing the update based on One UI 8.5. Users noted significantly reduced battery life despite sometimes shorter screen-on times, alongside device heating during light use or standby. WhatsApp has been identified by some as a potential contributor, with reports of the app freezing during backup and running extensively in the background post-update. However, it remains unconfirmed whether WhatsApp is the sole cause or if the issue is uniform across all affected devices.

Samsung has not officially acknowledged a widespread fault, nor provided a list of impacted models or interim solutions. The root cause is unclear, whether it lies within the system update, WhatsApp’s backup process, or an interaction between the app and updated system components. Users experiencing abnormal battery drain are advised to check battery settings for high consumption apps like WhatsApp, verify if WhatsApp backups are stuck, restart their devices, and update apps via Google Play and Galaxy Store. A full device reset is not currently recommended.

Samsung users who have not yet installed the July update, especially those with Galaxy S24 Ultra or S25 Ultra, are advised to delay installation until further clarity is provided. Those already affected by severe overheating or battery issues should report their problems through Samsung Members, including battery and diagnostic data from their devices.
