Channel 13 Anchor Compares Likud to Nazi Party During Live Interview

During a live broadcast on Channel 13's "News Today," anchor Eli Rahklin compared the Likud party to the Nazi party in a discussion with Knesset member Moshe Saada. The comparison arose while they were discussing the Likud convention's recent vote, which approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request to reserve eight spots on the party's candidate list for the upcoming Knesset elections. The vote also included changes to the party's primary election rules and district structures.

Rahklin referenced historical authoritarian regimes from the 1930s, implying a threat to democracy within Likud, which prompted Saada to strongly condemn the comparison. Saada emphasized that likening Likud to the Nazi party was inappropriate, especially considering that many Likud members have children serving in the Israeli military.

The Likud convention's decisions came after months of internal conflicts and power struggles. Netanyahu's proposal to secure eight reserved slots on the party list passed with a clear majority of 2,181 votes in favor versus 1,193 against. The changes also included amendments to the party's bylaws and the structure of its electoral districts, led by Netanyahu and party chairman Haim Katz.
