Attorney for Ultra-Orthodox Community Criticizes Arrest Freeze Law in Supreme Court Hearing
Attorney Natan Rozenblat from the organization "Emet LeYaakov BeYisrael," which represents the ultra-Orthodox community in court, spoke during a Supreme Court hearing on petitions against the law freezing arrests of draft-dodging ultra-Orthodox men. Rozenblat stated that the community had silently endured the closure of their daycare centers and the cancellation of overseas flights without protest. When pressed by the judges, he responded by asking if they wanted him to act against the rabbis' directives. Justice Sohlberg expressed disbelief at his remarks. Rozenblat also addressed the number of arrests made so far, estimating that there have been around 50 detainees, referring to them as "dozens."
