Israeli Democratic Party Candidate Admits Using Hostages' Families for Political Messaging Abroad

Nava Rozolio, a prominent activist and number 16 candidate on the Israeli Democratic Party list (a coalition of Labor and Meretz), admitted in a leaked private Zoom recording that left-wing protesters cynically used the families of hostages to advance political messages against the Israeli government internationally. The recording, revealed on the program "Sheva with Schlesinger and Bardugo," captures Rozolio explaining how activists harnessed the national pain surrounding the hostages to portray Israel as governed by an undemocratic regime.

Rozolio detailed her leadership in the "Flag Deployment" project during protests at Kaplan Hospital, where large banners with English slogans such as "You're not our government" and "Save Israel from Netanyahu" were displayed. She emphasized that the campaign targeted foreign media and international audiences to suggest that the Israeli government does not represent its people, comparing it to authoritarian or fascist regimes.

The disclosure has sparked controversy, as Rozolio openly described the strategic use of the hostage families' plight to disseminate political messages abroad. She stated, "We joined the struggle of the hostages' families, stood by them, and fought for the return of the hostages everywhere," but clarified that the protest messaging was designed primarily for international exposure.
