EU Foreign Policy Chief Reportedly Compared Israel to Apartheid South Africa
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas reportedly compared Israel with South Africa’s apartheid regime during closed meetings in Mexico, according to the European news site Euractiv.
The report says Kallas, who previously served as Estonia’s prime minister, made the remarks in confidential discussions with representatives of the Mexican government.
According to Euractiv, she referred to a visit she made last year to South Africa and to the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg. In those meetings, she likened Israel’s treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank to the racial segregation policy enforced in apartheid-era South Africa.
