Tel Aviv Academic College President Excludes Religious Zionism and Otzma Yehudit from Democracy Week Events

During Democracy Week at Tel Aviv Academic College, the institution decided not to invite representatives from the Religious Zionism and Otzma Yehudit parties. While representatives from Haredi, Arab parties, and various political organizations were invited, the college president, Prof. Galia Tsabar, deliberately prevented a meeting with right-wing and religious right representatives. This decision contrasts with the inclusion of figures such as the head of the Islamic Council in Jaffa, affiliated with the Balad party, and members of the "Standing Together" organization.

Academic institutions in Israel often host politicians for discussions with students during Democracy Week or election weeks. Earlier this year, the college held such an event, inviting party leaders including those outside the Knesset at the time, like Naftali Bennett and Yoaz Hendel. However, Prof. Tsabar reportedly takes pride in blocking interactions between students and right-wing representatives, despite the presence of Arab and Haredi parties.

In response, Tel Aviv Academic College stated that Democracy Week took place over six months ago, in early January, with participation from across the political spectrum. They noted that Naftali Bennett, a religious right-wing figure, attended, as did Likud MK Tali Gottlieb. Minister Gila Gamliel was also invited but later canceled her attendance. The college emphasized the inclusivity of the event despite the controversy.
