Zara's Oversized Trousers Spark Injuries and ER Visits Worldwide

The story · English

A pair of oversized wide-leg trousers sold by Zara has caused numerous injuries among customers, sparking viral social media complaints and videos. The trousers, priced around 200 shekels in Israel and about 45 dollars abroad, have been nicknamed "Zara's death pants" by affected buyers due to their excessive length and width, which reportedly cause wearers to trip and fall. Injuries documented include scratched hands, bleeding elbows, and bandaged toes, with some customers even requiring emergency room treatment after accidents involving walking, cycling, or escalators.

The trend began with a single TikTok video and quickly escalated into a widespread social media phenomenon, with hashtags like #zarapants gaining traction. Users have joked about the dangers, calling for warning labels and sharing tips such as shortening the trousers to avoid accidents. Some pointed out that the combination of fabric and width, especially when paired with open shoes, increases the risk of tripping.

Despite the growing online uproar, Zara has not issued an official response to the safety concerns. However, many Zara stores have reportedly accepted returns and exchanges for the problematic trousers. The incident highlights the risks of fast fashion trends that prioritize style over practicality and safety.
