Senator Mitch McConnell Addresses Hospitalization, Denies Rumors About Health

Senator Mitch McConnell, the senior Republican from Kentucky, has publicly addressed his recent hospitalization for the first time after weeks of silence. The 84-year-old senator announced he has left the hospital and is currently recovering at a physical rehabilitation center. McConnell revealed he was hospitalized last month following a fall that caused a brief loss of consciousness and a mild case of pneumonia. He emphasized that doctors confirmed he suffered no broken bones, concussions, heart attacks, strokes, tumors, or bleeding, aiming to dispel circulating rumors about his condition.

McConnell’s office had remained silent for over three weeks, sparking criticism from political opponents and raising concerns about his ability to serve. Reports had previously indicated emergency responders performed resuscitation efforts at his Washington home due to cardiac arrest. Democratic Senate candidate Charles Booker criticized the lack of transparency, stating that Kentuckians deserve to know if their senator is alert and capable of serving. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear also called for clearer communication, noting he had not been informed despite McConnell’s extended hospitalization.

McConnell, who serves as the Senate Republican leader, is not seeking re-election and plans to retire in January. Known as a powerful figure in American politics, he has maintained an independent foreign policy stance and opposed some of former President Trump’s political appointments. While McConnell did not specify when he will return to Senate duties, he confirmed he is recuperating at the rehabilitation center.
