Haaretz Group Plans to Lay Off Around 35 Employees Including Journalists

The Haaretz Group is expected to lay off approximately 35 employees, with about half of those being journalists such as reporters, editors, and photographers. The remaining layoffs will affect staff in departments outside the collective agreement, including the commercial division. This decision follows the recent distribution of a voluntary retirement plan to all employees, aimed at reducing the number of layoffs. According to a letter sent on behalf of Haaretz newspaper, employees interested in voluntary retirement must notify their direct manager by July 8, with the newspaper reserving the right to approve retirements at its sole discretion. It remains unclear how many layoffs will come from the economic branch, TheMarker, especially with the new editor Baruch Shai set to start in about two weeks.
