Israeli Minister David Amsalem Faces Backlash Over Personal Attacks and Threats on Social Media

Israeli Regional Cooperation Minister David Amsalem has sparked controversy with his aggressive and personal attacks on social media, targeting left-wing politicians, senior judiciary members, and political opponents. Following a heart attack, Amsalem expressed shock at the hatred directed at him, yet he himself has posted numerous inflammatory messages, including threats and insults against Supreme Court President Isaac Amit and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. For example, in June 2026, he told Baharav-Miara and her deputy Gil Limon that they have a "special place in hell," remarks he later defended as metaphysical.

Since June 2025, Amsalem’s social media has been dominated by harsh criticism of the left and the judicial system, with over 30 posts targeting these groups. He also frequently praises workers in government-owned defense and energy companies, emphasizing their importance to Israel’s security and politics. Amsalem openly discusses his influence in appointing loyalists to key positions in government companies and atomic energy committees.

Amsalem’s rhetoric extends to disparaging former Supreme Court President Asher Grunis and other judicial figures, accusing them of bias and undermining the government. He has also attacked former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit and former police commissioner Moshe Karadi, accusing them of disloyalty. His comments about the ultra-Orthodox community are supportive, highlighting the political alliance between Likud and Haredi parties, while he criticizes Reform Jews and Arab citizens.

Despite his harsh tone, some of Amsalem’s posts are more measured, though often accompanied by videos where he verbally lashes out at opponents. He has also defended Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, comparing him to Winston Churchill and condemning judicial actions against him. Amsalem’s social media activity reveals a combative style that intertwines political messaging with personal attacks, reflecting ongoing tensions within Israeli politics and the judiciary.

Amsalem did not respond to requests for comment from the media outlet Shomrim. His social media presence continues to be a focal point of political debate and controversy in Israel.
