Israeli Officials Admit No Agency Monitors Palestinian Authority Oslo Agreement Violations

A security and political failure was exposed during a recent session of the Knesset Subcommittee on Judea and Samaria, revealing that no official Israeli body is responsible for monitoring or documenting violations of the Oslo Accords by the Palestinian Authority (PA). This admission came amid demands from committee chairman MK Tzvi Sukkot for data on the PA's breaches, including military buildup and use of heavy weaponry, which representatives from the National Security Council (NSC) and Ministry of Defense could not provide or confirm.

The discussion highlighted a systemic oversight, with the NSC deferring responsibility to the Ministry of Defense and vice versa, leaving the question of who oversees compliance unanswered. MK Sukkot condemned the situation as "unbelievable," emphasizing the danger posed by unchecked PA military activities, which include training with tanks abroad and possession of heavy machine guns forbidden under the Oslo agreements.

The session also featured emotional appeals from bereaved families' representatives, who called for canceling the Oslo Accords and resuming Israeli control over the territories. Evidence presented included photos of PA militants armed with heavy weapons and advanced rifles, as well as images from a military academy in Moscow showing PA fighters training with Russian tanks, all clear violations of the accords.

MK Sukkot criticized the government for its failure to enforce the agreements, stating that the Oslo Accords have cost Israeli lives and threaten the state's existence. He insisted that Israel must at least monitor and verify the PA's compliance to avoid being "the world's suckers" by signing agreements without oversight. The revelations underscore growing security concerns as the PA continues to militarize in defiance of its commitments.
