Israeli Lawmakers Reveal No Government Body Monitors Oslo Accords Violations for 30 Years

During a session of the Knesset's Subcommittee on Judea and Samaria, chaired by MK Tzvi Sukkot, it was disclosed that no Israeli government entity has been responsible for monitoring violations of the Oslo Accords by the Palestinian Authority for the past 30 years. When Sukkot requested data on breaches of the agreements, representatives from the Civil Administration and the National Security Council stated they had no information and were not authorized to handle the matter. The National Security Council representative redirected responsibility to the Ministry of Defense, whose official, Yishai Kamelman, replied that political responsibility lies with the National Security Council, while operational responsibility falls to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories. However, no clear answer was given on who oversees enforcement of the accords.

MK Sukkot sharply criticized the situation, calling it "an unbelievable event" that after three decades no political body in Israel has checked whether the Palestinian side has violated the agreements, despite widespread knowledge of such breaches. He emphasized the danger posed by the Oslo framework, stating it risks Israeli lives and sovereignty, and vowed to fight for accountability. Civil society representatives also participated, including Eliav Libi from the "Habaita" forum, who lost his son in Gaza and warned of escalating security threats if the situation remains unchanged. Yehoshua Sherman, father of a terror victim, urged a shift in focus from Area C to the open areas of Areas A and B, advocating for settlement expansion and annulment of the Oslo Accords. Avraham Benjamin, policy deputy of the Regavim movement, highlighted the Palestinian Authority's military buildup and illegal construction, criticizing state authorities for lacking a comprehensive situational overview and deflecting responsibility.

The session underscored a significant gap in Israeli governmental oversight regarding the Oslo Accords, with calls from lawmakers and civil groups to reassess and enforce the agreements to safeguard Israel's security and territorial interests.
