Arthur Fery Stuns at Wimbledon, Reaching Quarterfinals as a Wildcard

Arthur Fery, ranked 114th in the world, has emerged as the surprise sensation of Wimbledon 2026 by reaching the quarterfinals. The 23-year-old British player defeated Italy's 10th-ranked Flavio Cobolli in a dominant performance on July 8, winning 4-6, 6-7, 0-6 while committing only 15 unforced errors compared to Cobolli's 41. This victory marked Fery's second consecutive win over Cobolli and his career-best achievement to date. Earlier in June, Fery, then ranked 140th, received a wildcard entry to the Queen's Club Championships, where he beat Toby Samuel and subsequently earned a wildcard for Wimbledon. He became the last remaining British player in the tournament after advancing to the third and then fourth rounds for the first time in his career. Fery also defeated Grigor Dimitrov to reach the quarterfinals, becoming only the fifth player in history to reach this stage at Wimbledon as a wildcard.

Fery's background adds to his intriguing story. Born in France to French parents, his mother, Olivia Fery, was a professional tennis player who competed in the 1991 Roland Garros doubles tournament and later represented Hong Kong. His father, Loic Fery, is a successful French businessman worth approximately $365 million and currently serves as president of the French football club Lorient, having previously owned it. The family moved to a London suburb near Wimbledon when Arthur was young, allowing him to grow up immersed in the sport and eventually choose to represent England in tennis.
