Arthur Fery Upsets Top-10 Player to Reach Wimbledon 2026 Semifinals

Arthur Fery, the 23-year-old British tennis player ranked 114th in the world, continues to stun at Wimbledon 2026 by advancing to the semifinals. Entering the tournament with only six wins on the main tour, Fery defeated world No. 10 Flavio Cobolli in a commanding performance on Wednesday, winning 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-0 on the grass courts of London. Fery broke Cobolli in the tenth game of the first set, recovered from a 0-2 deficit in the second set, and dominated the third set against the French Open finalist. This achievement makes Fery the lowest-ranked male player to reach the Wimbledon semifinals since Goran Ivanišević, who was ranked 125th when he won in 2001. He is also the fifth British man in the Open Era to reach this stage at the All England Club, joining Roger Taylor, Tim Henman, Andy Murray, and Cameron Norrie.

Fery expressed his excitement after the match, saying, "It just keeps getting better game by game. I can't believe it. Playing on Centre Court for the second time and winning again is amazing." In the semifinals, Fery will face Alexander Zverev, who also made a strong statement by defeating Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Zverev, ranked third globally, ended a seven-match losing streak against Fritz and showed confidence and control on the Wimbledon grass. This marks Zverev's first Wimbledon semifinal after nine previous appearances without advancing past the round of 16. He also became only the fifth active player to reach the semifinals in all four Grand Slam tournaments, alongside Novak Djokovic, Marin Čilić, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner.

Zverev, who won his first Grand Slam title at last month's French Open, aims to maintain his momentum in London. A victory over Fery on Friday would send him to his first Wimbledon final and could elevate him back to world No. 2. "I hope to play two more matches here," Zverev said with a smile. "But right now, I'm very happy to be in the semifinals, especially after beating Taylor, whom I hadn't beaten in over two years. I played a fantastic match."
