Israel Completes New 46-Kilometer Offshore Gas Pipeline Between Ashdod and Ashkelon
The Israeli Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced the completion of a new 46-kilometer offshore natural gas pipeline connecting the ports of Ashdod and Ashkelon. This national infrastructure project aims to significantly strengthen Israel's energy sector by enhancing the reliability and operational flexibility of the country's gas transmission system.
The pipeline is designed to improve energy security by ensuring a continuous and dependable supply of natural gas, particularly addressing growing demand in southern Israel. According to Haim Melamed, Senior Engineering Division Manager and Safety Supervisor at the Natural Gas Authority, the project is complex and nationally important, enabling increased supply capacity for both domestic consumption and export.
In addition to local benefits, the new pipeline will facilitate the expansion of Israel's natural gas exports to Egypt. This development is expected to boost state revenues, deepen regional cooperation, and solidify Israel's position as a key energy player in the region, strengthening economic and strategic ties between the countries.
