Bruce Springsteen Defends Criticism of Trump as True Patriotism

Bruce Springsteen, the 76-year-old rock legend, reaffirmed his outspoken criticism of former President Donald Trump, explaining that true patriotism involves openly addressing a country's flaws. In a recent interview on his show "Bruce Springsteen: Finding America in Song," Springsteen said, "A true patriot is someone who loves their country enough to see its defects and encourages it to become better." He emphasized that his critiques stem from love for the United States and a desire for improvement.

Springsteen has been a prominent political voice in American music for years and has frequently criticized Trump since his first presidential election in 2016. He supported Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the last election and previously called Trump "the most dangerous presidential candidate of my lifetime." Their public feud intensified during Trump’s second term, with Springsteen labeling the administration as "corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous" during his 2026 Land of Hope and Dreams tour. He also urged audiences to oppose authoritarianism and defend freedom.

Trump responded on his social media platform Truth Social by insulting Springsteen as a "withered rocker" and a "total loser," encouraging his supporters to boycott Springsteen’s concerts. Springsteen dismissed the attacks, stating, "My role is simple, I do what I want and say what I want. Then people can say what they want about me. That’s the way the game is for me, and that’s perfectly fine."
