Rabbi David Stav Urges Israeli Leaders to Prioritize Consensus Over Coercion Ahead of Knesset Summer Session End

Rabbi David Stav, chairman of the Tzohar Rabbinical Organization, released a video on the "Mishav" channel urging Israeli political leaders to focus on broad agreements rather than power struggles as the summer session of the Knesset nears its conclusion. He warned against the damage caused by coercive policies, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and consensus.

In his remarks, Rabbi Stav linked the historical significance of the fast of the 17th of Tammuz to Israel's current political and public reality. Addressing the legislative rush in the Knesset, he suggested concentrating on achievable agreements through conversation instead of forceful tactics. He cautioned that attempts to impose positions on others often provoke antagonism and negative reactions.

Rabbi Stav criticized political power struggles as ineffective for long-term solutions, noting that coercion today may be met with counter-coercion tomorrow. He called for a new discourse centered on consensus rather than confrontation. Drawing on the teachings of Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook, he advocated for leadership based on "the power of speech" rather than physical or political force, urging leaders to be guided by "a gentle rod rather than a whip," aiming for unity and reconciliation.

He concluded by extending this approach to personal and community life, encouraging families and neighbors to avoid using force or coercion and instead seek to persuade and improve relationships through dialogue.
