US Deploys Over 900 Troops to Venezuela for Earthquake Relief Operations

The United States military has deployed more than 900 personnel to Venezuela as part of its relief efforts following a severe earthquake that struck the country last week. An additional 800 troops have been stationed at bases in Puerto Rico and Curaçao to support the operation. This information was provided to Reuters by General Francis Donovan, commander of the US Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM).

According to General Donovan, US forces have been actively involved in search and rescue missions, managing airport operations, and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid. The military has also utilized MQ-9 Reaper drones to conduct damage assessments in the affected areas.

This deployment marks a significant shift in US-Venezuela relations, occurring just months after the US military captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and transferred him to the United States. The current cooperation in disaster relief contrasts sharply with the recent political tensions between the two countries.
