Israeli Air Force Escorts Polish Civilian Plane After Emergency Code Activation Over Mediterranean

On Tuesday afternoon, two Israeli Air Force fighter jets were scrambled to intercept a civilian passenger plane flying over the Mediterranean Sea after an emergency security code was activated on board. The flight, LOT Polish Airlines number 155 operated by Bulgaria's Electra, was en route from Warsaw to Ben Gurion Airport in Israel when contact was lost with the aircraft. Following the loss of communication, the Israeli military dispatched the fighter jets to escort and assess the situation.

Shortly thereafter, communication with the plane was restored, and the pilots reported that the emergency code was triggered due to a technical malfunction rather than a security threat. As a precaution, the plane did not continue to Israel but turned back, with expectations to land in Bulgaria. The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed the incident ended without any security concerns but did not disclose details about the technical issue that caused the emergency code activation.
