Israeli Sandali Shoresh Factory Becomes First Carbon-Neutral Plant in Israel

During Channel 14's Environment and Recycling Conference, Liron Cohen Aviv, Marketing Manager of Sandali Shoresh, revealed how the company achieved Israel's first carbon-neutral factory status. Founded decades ago by Yuki Gil and Daniel Bonzilao, the company was built on sustainability values, focusing on durable, eco-friendly children's sandals. Cohen Aviv emphasized that the initiative began with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and good business ethics.

The factory implemented solar panels on its roof and installed a Tesla battery energy storage system, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and the Chief Scientist. Cohen Aviv highlighted the importance of product durability, stating that the greenest product is one that does not need frequent replacement. Additional innovative projects include a gasification system converting production waste into electricity and a partnership with Ubiquio to incorporate household waste as raw material in sandal production.

She explained that waste is treated as a resource rather than a problem, aligning with the company’s holistic sustainability approach. Maintaining production in Israel allows better oversight of manufacturing processes and supports local employment, further contributing to the company’s environmental and social values.
