Ireland Moves Israel Soccer Match to Serbia Amid Protests Over Middle East Conflict

The Irish Football Association officially announced that the upcoming UEFA Nations League match between Ireland and Israel will not be held in Ireland but relocated to a neutral venue in Serbia. The game is scheduled for Sunday, October 4, at the TSC Arena in Bačka Topola, which has a capacity of 4,500 seats and is home to the local club Bačka Topola. The decision was made due to operational challenges and concerns over security and crowd protests related to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The Irish Football Association stated that the move was approved by UEFA and that the kickoff time will be confirmed later. This relocation follows significant opposition and demonstrations in Ireland since the teams were drawn together, including protests during a recent friendly match against Qatar in Dublin. Irish authorities acknowledged their inability to manage the expected protests and ensure player safety, prompting the venue change.

Israel's home matches in the Nations League campaign continue to be held at the Nagyerdei Stadium in Debrecen, Hungary, including their game against Ireland on September 27. Israel has previously hosted Italy, Norway, Estonia, and Slovakia in Debrecen during the World Cup qualifiers and friendlies. Ireland will begin their campaign with an away match against Kosovo on September 24 before traveling to Hungary.
