China Develops AI-Driven Personalized Cancer Vaccine Production Line to Cut Development Time to One Day

The story · English

In Beijing, China is establishing its first production line for personalized cancer vaccines powered by artificial intelligence, aiming to reduce vaccine development time from weeks to just one day. The project, led by Likang Life Sciences, involves building a new research and drug manufacturing center with an investment of approximately 110 million yuan (16.1 million USD). The facility is expected to begin operations by October 2024.

Unlike conventional vaccines designed for broad populations, these personalized cancer vaccines are tailored to each patient. The process starts with collecting a tumor sample, followed by DNA sequencing to identify genetic mutations driving the cancer. AI algorithms then analyze this genetic data rapidly, pinpointing key mutations and assisting in designing a vaccine that trains the patient’s immune system to target cancer cells within 24 hours.

Currently, this approach remains experimental and must undergo clinical trials and regulatory approvals before becoming widely available. The initiative is part of a global race to integrate AI into drug development, where AI accelerates tasks such as clinical trial design, medical data analysis, and documentation, significantly reducing the time from diagnosis to treatment.

China faces a significant health challenge, with the National Cancer Center reporting about 5.15 million new cancer cases in 2024, including 2.67 million men. The AI-driven vaccine project represents both a medical breakthrough and a strategic technological advancement for China, as the healthcare AI market is projected to exceed one trillion dollars by 2035, driven by automation and personalized medicine innovations.
