Bereaved Father Hagai Luber Announces Run for Knesset with Unity Party Plan

Hagai Luber, a bereaved father whose son, Lt. Col. Elisha Yehonatan Luber, was killed in combat in southern Gaza during Operation Sword of Iron, announced on Monday his intention to run in the upcoming Knesset elections. Luber plans to establish a new political party aimed at forming a broad unity government that includes Israel's two largest parties.

In a public statement, Luber explained that his decision stems from frustration with the persistent political deadlock in Israel, which remains unchanged despite repeated elections. He expressed a desire for the next government to represent the majority of Israeli citizens, not just the winning faction. His vision is for a "cooperation government" composed of the two major parties and additional partners, to overcome challenges in key areas such as intergovernmental relations, ultra-Orthodox military conscription, the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the events of October 7, security appointments, and the rehabilitation of communities near conflict zones.

Luber emphasized that his party will not join any coalition that does not include both major parties, making this a fundamental condition for participation. He believes this approach will enable broader consensus decision-making, strengthen public trust in the political system, and enhance national cohesion. He concluded his announcement with a call for collaboration and a personal commitment, stating, "I will not do this alone. I will connect with like-minded people, and together we will bring real change to Israeli politics. With all my strength and soul, I dedicate myself to the mission of my life, in the name of the brotherhood of fighters, the memory of the fallen, and the continued existence of the people of Israel."
