Boxer Ebanie Bridges Revolutionizes Weigh-In Culture in Women's Boxing

Former IBF world boxing champion Ebanie Bridges, known as the "Blonde Bomber," claims she sparked a revolution in pre-fight weigh-in attire by making appearances in lingerie a key part of her branding. Bridges, 39, who currently lives and trains in Yorkshire, England, revealed that the idea originated during her days as a bodybuilding competitor. She said, "I was the pioneer of weigh-ins in lingerie. It's my thing." She transformed the weigh-in into a smaller event that gained momentum, inspiring other female boxers to adopt similar approaches.

Bridges noted that her most recent opponent, Ebony Cotton, who wore only tape during the weigh-in, was influenced by her style. "She was a fan of mine. I know I inspired her. I thought it would be hard for her to stand next to me in lingerie because that’s already my domain, so she had to do something different," Bridges explained. She emphasized that this is not a competition but a way to promote the fight, attract more viewers, and generate buzz.

While Bridges supports female boxers choosing more revealing outfits to gain attention, she personally feels there is a limit. "For me, lingerie is already my trademark. I don’t feel the need to take off more clothes or be more exposed to raise the bar," she said. Her goal has always been to advance women's boxing and prove herself in the ring. Bridges concluded, "People will always remember that I was the first to really cause a stir with these weigh-ins."
