Knesset to Hold First-Ever Debate on Palestinian Authority Violations Since Oslo

Next week, the Knesset will hold a special and unprecedented discussion on alleged Palestinian Authority violations of the Oslo Accords and Israel’s response. The session was initiated by MK Zvi Sukkot, who chairs the subcommittee on Judea and Samaria, and it will take place under the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

During the debate, lawmakers and security officials are expected to receive detailed briefings on a range of alleged violations over the years, including security issues, smuggling, economic activity, environmental oversight, treatment of holy sites, and antiquities. The discussion will also cover directives from Israel’s political leadership regarding these violations, as well as steps taken by the IDF and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

Sukkot said the Knesset has never held a thorough examination of the Palestinian Authority’s alleged breaches since the Oslo Accords were signed more than three decades ago. He argued that the accords’ impact has come at a heavy cost to Israel, saying it has been paid in the blood of “thousands of Jews” killed as a result of what he called the “cursed agreement.”

He added that Israel has behaved like “the sucker of the world” by failing to check whether the other side was honoring the deal. According to Sukkot, if the Palestinian Authority repeatedly violates its commitments, Israel must reconsider its policy and ensure its security and national interests are protected. He called the upcoming hearing a historic debate meant to end years of ignoring the reality created by Oslo.
